Deva Triathlon, Chester

On the 4th June, 2017, Donald took part in the  Deva Triathlon, Chester which was a qualifier for the Olympic distance World Championships grand final held in Rotterdam this September to be part of the Great Britain Age Group team. Due the this and the location of the event it attracts a very large and good field of athletes, including world and European age group champions.

First was the 1500m swim in the River Dee, Donald took the lead out from the start and followed the guide canoe around the course to emerge 1st out the water from his wave in a time of 20.22. He then set about tackling the 40K bike course which was windier than forecast but stayed dry. He worked his way through the tail end of the previous waves to come into T2 with a sub hour bike split 58:38 which was his best to date. Still in 1st place within  his age group he went out on the 3 lap 10K run, knowing his age group rival has a rapid run, (who had the fastest run split of the day) he gave it his all. This brought him in with a run time of 34:33 and an overall finish time of 1:56:26. This secured a Podium space, 3rd place overall out of 1300 and the Age Group win securing a Great Britain Team space.

Donald is heading out to Kitzbuhel, Austria next week to take part in the Olympic distance European Championships as part of the Great Britain Age Group team, we wish him all the best of luck.
